The importance of regular check-ups

For most of us, our mouths are the main method of communication; this alone should be reason enough to look after our teeth and gums. Everyday our teeth come into contact with sugar that can, overtime, cause dental complications. Maintaining a good level of oral health requires consistency throughout a combination of elements, including regular appointments with your dentist. Below are just a few of the key reasons why you should attend regular check-ups.

Maintain your teeth

It may sound obvious, but frequent oral-health checks will help you to maintain your teeth for longer. Plaque can build up quickly and if it is left untreated it can lead to further dental complications such as periodontitis, which may result in tooth loss.

Spot early signs of disease

Although we can all be aware of the symptoms of diseases such as mouth cancer or gum disease, it can be easy to miss the early indicators which, if recognised, could dramatically reduce the treatment required. Our dentists have a wealth of knowledge and will take the time to conduct a thorough oral-health check, highlighting and addressing any areas of concern each time you visit the practice.

A brighter smile

When you have a healthy mouth it shows. Clean teeth always give off a good impression, in fact recent surveys have revealed that when meeting someone for the first time, their smile is one of the first things we look at. Regular appointments with your dentist will help you to maintain the health and appearance of your teeth whilst reducing plaque levels.

Fresh breath

We don’t always notice fresh breath, but we do have a tendency to recognise when someone’s breath isn’t great. Bad breath can be caused by a number of different things, with poor oral health sitting up near the top of that list. Our dentists will be able to assess what it is that is causing your bad breath and advise you on the most efficient action to take to feel fresh again.

We understand that for some, a trip to the dentist is a daunting experience and therefore, regular check-ups might be missed off their to-do list. Our caring support staff will take the time to make sure you feel comfortable at Stourbridge Dental & Implant Clinic . However if you are particularly anxious, we do offer sedation techniques to make your time with us a little more relaxing.

We often hear people say they’re embarrassed by their teeth, but we can reassure you that you’ll not show us anything we haven’t seen before. If you’ve missed check-ups previously, don’t worry, we’ll be able to determine your current level of oral health and advise you on the best ways to achieve and maintain a healthy mouth.
