Invisalign Braces FAQs

· What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern invisible way to straighten your teeth. Invisalign uses 3-D computer imaging technology to depict your complete treatment plan, starting with the initial position of your teeth and progressing to the final desired position. From this, a series of custom-made “aligners” are produced for your teeth. The aligners are custom calibrated to precisely fit your mouth for the various stages of the treatment plan.

· What are the aligners made of?

They are made using a clear, medical grade, strong and non-toxic plastic. Since the aligners are clear, nobody notices that you’re wearing them. This makes Invisalign seamlessly fit in with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.

· How long will the treatment take?

Every patient is different. The length of the treatment depends on how severe a patient’s orthodontic issues are. It can vary anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Most treatments last for approximately 9-12 months. The treatment plan is determined by us, based on your specific needs.

· What are the benefits of Invisalign?

The Invisalign aligners are almost invisible, which is the main reason they have become so popular. No-one sees a mouth full of metal when you smile in front of them. They are also removable, giving you complete flexibility when it comes to eating and drinking. All you have to do is take them off. The same also applies when brushing and flossing, and unlike traditional braces, they don’t have metal wires that can irritate your gums and cheeks.

Invisalign enables you to view your treatment plan and virtual results before you start any treatment, so you’ll know in advance how your teeth are expected to look once the treatment is finished.

· How many people have been treated with Invisalign?

Invisalign has been used to treat over 3 million patients across the world. And the number grows with each passing day.

· How do I use Invisalign?

You should wear your aligners for around 22 hours a day, including when you’re asleep. Take off your aligners as you eat and clean your teeth only. Additionally, you should remove your aligners when you’re drinking anything except cold water to avoid staining them and risking tooth decay caused by sugars in the fluids. You will visit to us every 4-6 weeks to review your progress and allow for modifications if necessary.

· Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Just like most of the other orthodontic treatments, the Invisalign aligners can temporarily affect your speech, but generally, people barely notice it. You may have a slight lisp for a couple of days but as your tongue gets more used to the aligners, this effect disappears.

· Will the Invisalign treatment hurt?

It’s fairly common to experience some mild soreness in your teeth for a short period after each new stage of aligners. This is to be expected and it happens with the vast majority of orthodontic braces when they are adjusted. It simply means that your teeth are moving gradually in the desired directions. The soreness gradually goes away after each new set of aligners has been worn for a day or two.
