What are the alternatives to traditional braces?

I once heard an orthodontist describe traditional metal braces as the “Swiss Army Knife” of teeth straightening appliances.   Traditional braces are one of the most effective and accurate ways to move teeth in a relatively short period of time, they are also the least popular as many of us do not relish the metallic appearance of these appliances.

Thankfully, there are many alternative systems available these days and at Stourbridge Dental & Implant Clinic we use the leading brands to help provide our patients with some amazing results.

From clear braces to ones that are totally hidden—and those that are invisible—here are some of your top options to straighten teeth.

Invisalign

Invisalign is truly the most invisible way to straighten your teeth. This method of orthodontic treatment uses sets of clear aligner trays that you will progress through as your teeth move into place. Invisalign aligners are  removable and virtually invisible, unlike regular metal braces.

If you want treatment that’s subtle, Invisalign can fix many issues including overbites, gaps between teeth and crowded teeth. The treatment time will be unique to your smile, but is comparable to that of traditional
braces. With fewer orthodontic visits Invisalign is often an attractive option for patients.

Lingual Braces

These unique braces are just like traditional braces but with a twist, as the braces are placed on the other side of your teeth.

Lingual braces are designed to work like regular braces but are hidden behind your teeth so that no one will know you’re getting your smile corrected from the inside out.

Not everyone is a candidate for these braces, as we can be restricted on the types of movements we can carry out.

Damon Braces

Damon braces mimic traditional braces but can use clear brackets to provide a more neutral appearance. In addition to their subtle appearance, the Damon brace system focuses on a slide mechanism to reduce the forces we place on the teeth compared to traditional orthodontic brackets.

People comment that the design of these braces is not be as obvious as regular traditional braces and comfortable, as they apply pressure and work with the teeth as they move.
