Dermal fillers are designed to be used on the lines that are visible when the facial muscles aren’t moving – known as static lines – for a subtle lift and a fresher look. They work by using hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the human body. Hyaluronic acid naturally depletes with age, which is one of the reasons why older people tend to lose volume in their cheeks and their skin develops lines and wrinkles.
Dermal fillers are a safe way of putting hyaluronic acid back into the skin to add volume, softening existing lines and preventing new ones from developing.
Because hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, dermal fillers are unlikely to produce an allergic reaction, although we will always check your medical history during the initial consultation.
Treatment takes about 20 minutes using a small needle. There may be a small amount of discomfort while the injections take place and some effects are visible immediately. When the serum has settled after two or three days the full effect will be visible, which can last from 6 to 12 months, depending on the individual.
There may be a little swelling and redness after treatment, which will generally subside within a few hours. Bruising can occur in the treated area but this will usually fade over a few days.
